Dario Argento

Dario Argento was a film critic in the 60's and participated at the time in the writing of various scripts, including Once Upon a Time in the West by Sergio Leone. In 1969, he directed his first film, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, which laid the foundation for his favorite themes, including giallo, the Italian thriller genre, which became his favorite one. In 1975, he is at the top of the genre with Deep Red and then explored the horror and the fantastic, in a baroque and flamboyant style, with the diptych Suspiria and Inferno. At the end of the 90's, the filmmaker started a series of films announcing an artistic renaissance. The Stendhal Syndrome commands admiration while Innocent Blood shows his return to the giallo genre and is reminiscent of his first excessive gore effects. Dario Argento imposed throughout his career a unique aesthetic style: graphic violence and formal experimentations in a mysterious and bewitching atmosphere. In 2012, he came back with Dracula 3D, where he paid homage to the classics of the Hammer studios. Dario Argento is undoubtedly one of the greatest filmmaker of our time, who continues to influence contemporary cinema.
