In 1980 he directed his first feature film Dernier été with Ariane Ascaride and Gerard Meylan, who will both play in most of his films. The Guediguian family was born and grew later on with the arrival of the actor Jean-Pierre Darroussin. ...Christophe Kantcheff

Christophe Kantcheff is journalist, film critic, director. He is chief editor of the weekly magazine Politis.

"The Estaque filmmaker has filmed in his native neighbourhood, in Marseille, 15 out of the 17 films he directed, from Marius et Jeanette to Les Neiges du Kilimandjaro, his latest film. Using this working class territory, Robert Guédiguian creates a whole universe. The dreams told by his stories and his characters are made of solidarity, friendship, love and brotherhood and therefore form one of the most political and popular filmwork existing today." Christophe Kantcheff’s book is a thematic, geographical and critical journey through Robert Guediguian’s cinema, including the participation of his three main actors Ariane Ascaride, Jean-Pierre Darroussin and Gerard Meylan.
